Charlotte was nearly devastated when dad had to leave for a little while tonight. Poor Charlie was tired & hungry & teething, the usual, so we decided to make dinner fun: a picnic! For the Victorians, 'picnics were the happy occasions when they would try to forget how highly civilized they were on a day-to-day basis'. There was, of course, a manual on proper picnic etiquette. In this manual it was written 'women have more tender nerves and more rapid imaginations so great care was to be taken when choosing a picnic location-a site set upon a cliff to offer a splendor view might alarm a female diner'. Also, care must be taken to see that guests are not seated upon an ant hill and that there is ample shade, for there is nothing more uncomfortable for a lady than to be exposed to a merciless sun. Well, I think we would have done the Victorians proud. As you can see, we had shade as well as level ground-oh and no ant hills :) As for the highly civilized part...we found we are still inclined to throw macaroni, no matter where we supp.
